Alright, let's talk animation.
The main thing that's been holding me back on doing animations or even WANTING to do animations was the fact that my overall animation process was... kinda slow and kinda crap. Seriously I've been kind of winging it this whole time and it has NOT been helping me out at all, especially since I prefer to do hand drawn frame-by-frame stuff. And thanks to the fact that I can't focus on animating all the time due to other real-life obligations, my process needed a tune-up in order to get things out quicker if I didn't want to die of old age while doing it.
I didn't want to sacrifice my obsession with hand drawn frame-by-frame nonsense, so I've been testing some methods and techniques that work with it in order to make things more efficient... and boy howdy is it more efficient. Let's compare and contrast how long it took for the pre-visualization stage of two different animations to get done. Both were done through on-and-off work and went through the same general stages of production.
- The Loona animation (Loona's Stress Relief) pre-visualization stage took weeks to complete. While it's roughly ten seconds, the main loop itself is roughly one second of animation looped throughout those ten seconds. (17 frames drawn for the main loop.)
- The test animation (A Good Ol' Rub) pre-visualization stage took only a day or two at best to complete. It was also roughly a one second looping animation and had roughly the same number of frames as the main loop of the Loona animation. (16 frames drawn for the main loop.)
I dunno about you, but I'd say that's a bit of a better workflow.
I'm genuinely excited to do more with this new process since doing things faster without sacrificing quality (if you can call it that) had been the biggest hurdle for me to get over for a very long time, even before I started drawing, uh... boobies. Maybe I can also start doing animated shorts instead of only loops, though that might be jumping the gun a bit considering I'd have to also start figuring out audio and the can of worms that is...
...maybe.
